Whoa is that light at the end of the tunnel?!

So got word from a friend that a position might be opening up at a theater that I've always wanted to work for...Errr guess I should say hello in my blog first huh? Hello...anyway *is really excited* the stage manager might be going off to grad school leaving a position for an Equity Stage Manager! *insert angels singing here* I know you are asking "what's the big deal?" I have wanted to work there for quite sometime (like I said). I like the Artistic Director, I like the theater, and I like the house actors. I send the A.D. a resume and e-mail. Here's hoping!

Other then that Little Shop starts tech tomorrow AHHHH! No, I'm so ready. I get to a point when I've run out of things to do in the rehearsal hall. I don't know if that makes me incredibly organized or forgetful. Tomorrow I'm going to play electrician to help John Ryan be ready for the evening tech. So it is off to bed with me!

A Small Conclusion

So I have come to a small epiphany *insert lightning strike here* there is an interesting predicament with my business. Normally we are behind, aka rushing to get things finished before the show opens, right now I am having the opposite problem. The actor/director contingent of my show is about six days ahead of schedule. Now being ahead is one thing, but being ahead that far is causing its own set of problems; namely that I am afraid that the show will peak before we get out of tech (which starts Monday). My director has a cold so that has slowed him down a bit today, but there are still four days until we are in tech and probably three until we can be on the set. SO I asked myself this question "What are we going to do with four days of rehearsal left?" The answer is work a little and rest a little before the wonderful madness of tech :)

One Week Down...

I have made a decision that I'm going to try to update this blog on a somewhat more regular basis, and start taking my camera places.

So we are one week into rehearsal. Observations (why thank you I believe I will)
1. This is a VERY funny show!
2. Our carpentry shop is awesome (not that everyone else isn't, just that they are ahead...i.e. they are building faster then my TD can draft)
3. Gary is going to be here in a week *happy dance* I need my gay man!
4. Our costumers rock!

We've had some crazy thunderstorms out here the last few days. I caught this bolt two days ago...I didn't even realize I got this picture until I loaded the pictures from my camera today.

By the by this is the view from my room :)

Tomorrow is another day...just another day in paradise,

The Update

Okaaaaaay,
So to uncode my last post as it is now out in the open. Our Executive Director is leaving...Monday. This leaves the BHP leaderless. We've been reassured by the Board of Directors that there is no threat to to our season. However I don't believe we will have a new E.D. before the season is out. Even though we have be reassured, there is still unrest in the company, mainly those that have been here before, and I can't blame them.

Rehearsal for Leading Ladies is going very well. The show is a farce and v,ery commical. I think it will sell well and word of mouth will be (as it always is) our best ally.

I still do not have work lined up after the BHP...worrywort.

War?

What do you do when you are fighting a loosing battle and have no where to retreat? Become heroes? Become martyrs? I wish it were that easy. AND there is the fact that this is and isn't my battle. Part of me feels like I'm sticking my nose where it doesn't freakin' belong and the other side argues that it is my job...well sort of my job.

I hope the warriors are ready it is going to be one heck of a battle.

How was that for criptic? If things go the way I think they are going then I will update soon and make this DiVinci Code of an entry make some more sense.

What's Next?

So I have been wondering...no that's the wrong word...I have been worrying about what's next. The season at the BHP hasn't even started yet! Good lord I've become my father! Always worrying that the phone might not ring. Please don't get me wrong I look forward to stage managing for the BHP again this summer, but then what? Know anyone who wants a ready to be equity stage manager?

Meanwhile...
I'm sitting in the office waiting for the phone to ring on other matters. Trying to keep from shifting from Production Coordinator to stage manager to me (who is feeling a little needy today). I am not cut out for an office job, I get bored easily. Give me a list of projects to get done and I'll fly through it. Otherwise I might just update my blog ;)

Back to the grind,

Feed Me Seymour!

Take a gander! I made this for a display for the BHP. I'm in the process of making a bigger one that will have arm-like tendrels. I'll post it when I'm finished with it.

Not much else to report. Plugging away at the BHP trying to get the season ready to go.

Thanks for stopping in,

Tour of Black Hills Playhouse

Hello again!
Long time no post. I am safe and sound in South Dakota again. This time I will be stage managing come summer but until then I am helping organize the tours that will happen starting in June.

My world is a little wild with opportunities on the horizon and a union card within reach, so hang in there and we'll see where this wild world takes me!

Thanks for dropping in,

Onward and Upward!

Hello Folks!
The decision has been made that Around the World in 80 Days will not extend at the Kansas City Repertory Theatre. Which means I am out of a job on Valentines Day. I will be trekking across the country to home for a while and then back out to South Dakota to get everything up for the Black Hills Playhouse's tour this summer.

Other then that not much to report except that there might be a new four-legged friend in my life soon!

Until next time,
Laura

Around the World in 80 Days...

...And two rehearsals!

Just a first day (for the crew) observation of this cast; namely that THEY ARE HAVING A GREAT AMOUNT OF FUN! They have been doing this for sometime and are a good ensemble working together helping each other out to remember what they did before.

As I said two rehearsals and then right into tech. We have a new leading man Lance, who is doing a great job by the way! We (Jenn, Stacey, Taylor, and I) are trying to figure out where everything goes but right now we haven't had any many breakdowns in that respect.

Other then that 3/4 of the props department has the flu and we load out of the rehearsal hall tomorrow :) Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this is going to be fun!

Later days,
Laura
